South Indian Actress spice too bland for Bollywood?

Kollywood Actress
Superstar actresses from south Indian films who were launched in Bollywood with fanfare have failed to fire.

Over the past couple of years, the Hindi film industry has witnessed the entry of several superstar actresses from south India.

It started with Shriya Saran's debut in Awarapan in 2007. She was followed by Genelia D'Souza who, after an earlier flop stint, was 'launched' again in Bollywood with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na in 2008.

Later the same year, Asin saw a blockbuster debut by way of Ghajini. And Trisha Krishnan was launched with hype in Khatta Meetha recently.

Shriya Saran's, Genelia D'Souza, Asin

There's a common thread here. All these girls have been established names down South before foraying Bollywood. And despite the abundant hype surrounding their debut, their careers haven't exactly taken off in Hindi films.

While Asin's second release London Dreams was a dud, she has managed to bag just one film in all this time - that too a hero-dominated action film named Ready, starring her current Godfather Salman Khan.

Shriya and Genelia have had a string of flops. And Trisha, reeling under the failure of Khatta Meetha has no takers in Bollywood right now.

Industry experts point at several reasons for their failure - signing wrong films, being too choosy, sticking to a certain kind of roles, and the ambition to make best of both the worlds (southern as well as Hindi films).

"Why do you think top Hindi actresses never venture South? It's because you can't balance between two boats at the same time. Ultimately, everything boils down to success," says trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

"A big factor that comes in the way of these girls getting films in Mumbai is the fee they demand. Because they are superstars down South, they come with a hefty price.

They forget that in Bollywood they are newcomers in a level playing playing field," says a veteran producer, not wishing to be named. Read more...

Shriya Saran Singned for Item Song in SJ Suryah’s ‘Puli’ Film

Your acting itself is a sin Shriya Charan. The actress hasn’t given an outmatching performance even once in her career and yet proclaims herself to be a great actress.

The actress lost her prominence when she tripped her foot with comedy actor Vadivelu in ‘Indiralogathil Na Azhagappan’. Now with none of her big releases winning her laurels, the actress gets back to the same strategy of dancing for an item number.

Yes, she’ll be seen shaking legs for an item song in SJ Suryah’s Telugu film ‘Puli’ starring Pawan Kalyan in lead role. Says Shriya: ‘Why do people perceive me dancing for an item song is much more than a sin? I am really privileged to work with a great team and the song has a musical score by A.R. Rahman. I will be dancing even for the Tamil version of this film that has SJ Suryah himself in lead role…’ Read more...

Shriya's 'Chikku Bhukku' Secrets

Shriya has a reason to smile. The year 2010 has started on a positive note for her thanks to the response 'Kutty' has evoked. Moreover, she has signed two new movies, one opposite Jeeva in Tamil and the other in Malayalam opposite Mammootty.

In the meantime, she is also upbeat about about 'Chikku Bhukku', for which she is romancing Arya. "I play Anu, a London return. Obsessed with London, she is in a confused state in India. As she travels, she loses herself at one point," she says.

Shriya adds: "As Anu is stranded thanks to the twists and turns of Indian roads, she meets Arjun (Arya). And what follows is a racy second-half, which has more twists and turns than those of the Indian roads."

If the pretty actress is unhappy about one thing, then it is the leak of her forthcoming film 'Jaggubhai' on the net. "How can some one upload the movie on the web even before its release? Such unruly acts kill the future of thousands of people."

"Piracy is nothing short of terrorism. If the same trend continues, the piracy business will be bigger than the film industry. We all should join together to fight against piracy. And no doubt we will win the war."
